16 Must-Follow Facebook Pages for chemung county public defender Marketers
This is the third year I have been a member of the Chemung County Public Defender’s Office. I have been a member since November of 2011 and have continued to volunteer at the office. I also go to the monthly Public Defender Office meeting.
I have tried to stay out of the spotlight, but I have been approached by several attorneys who have called me asking if I would represent a client in a criminal case. I am not a criminal case attorney, but I do have a few criminal law (and DUI) background pieces that I have written. I have not represented a client yet, but I am considering it.
The first time I heard about this being a possibility was on a friend’s facebook page about a month ago. I was surprised, but not surprised. In my opinion it would be my dream job to go to law school, but it is not out of the question. I am a firm believer in the importance of public service and am passionate about the idea of a life spent in public service.
In the summer of 2010 I was accepted into the University of Utah Law School, but I chose to work in the private sector instead. In the private sector, I was able to give back to my community and work for a nonprofit organization. During this time I had the opportunity to work for the Utah Attorney General’s office, which is a great experience.
I can’t say enough about the work that you do here. I was very pleased by the outpouring of support that we got from the public defender’s office, the public defenders of Utah, and the community in general.
As a public defender, I get to see the public defenders work day to day. They have to be tough, they have to be competent, and they have to be willing to put in time in court. It really is that simple.
But the work that they do is more than just sitting and reading and listening to the public defender’s testimony. While in the office, the public defender’s team will be working with the prosecutor and all the various investigators to find the best strategy to present their case. What they do is a team effort and it’s a very collaborative effort. There is a great deal of synergy among the public defenders and their colleagues. There are few people who work in public defense like the people I work with.
I like to think of it this way. We are all people first, public defenders second. We do not have a lot of time to spend in the evenings and weekends and nights in the office in front of a lawyer. We are forced to do research and write briefs on the spot and then we have to write the brief and send it to the judge. We have a lot of time. We are also a very diverse group of people.
We do have a lot of time. We are all very different people. We have been in a state of depression for a year. We have been in a state of depression for a couple of years and for one year.
It’s a whole other thing to go to public prosecutor.
